The Women of Inspiration Awards will recognize for the fifth year Canadian role models and heroes who make an impact in the community and the world.

The event is being put on by the Canadian Business Chicks. Nominations are open in 23 categories of business and life until midnight June 15.

“Recognizing the female role models is critical. I believe every woman has a story,” said Monica Kretschmer, CEO of Canadian Business Chicks.

“I launched the Women of Inspiration Awards to recognize a woman who made an impact on my life. She was my family lawyer. It was her belief in me that helped me overcome unimaginable adversity; 4,800 hours of legal, 22 days of the trial all the way to Supreme Court. When I saw the light at the end of the tunnel, I knew I was tested for a bigger purpose, and I knew I wanted to give her a legacy.

“We know that raising the profiles of role models is critical. When you elevate one woman, you elevate all women.”

Women of Inspiration will be celebrated on two national stages this year: in Calgary on Oct. 3 and Toronto on Oct. 9.

In the past, nominees have included women from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds, thought leaders, scientists, artists, journalists, authors, speakers, athletes, lawyers, senior entrepreneurs, millennial leaders and an eight-year-old entrepreneur.

This year’s theme is Dream Big.

“Being nominated for Women of Inspiration touches me on so many levels and is a gift that motivates me to move forward and set my dreams and goals for even bigger and more profound change,” said Karen Stewart, founder and CEO of Bumble Bees Venture Capital and Fairway Divorce Solution.

To date, Women of Inspiration has recognized over 300 female role models making a difference in their network, workplaces and communities.
